Opal rings- The Meaning Behind The Stones

By

Many owners of opal rings wear them not only for their rainbow-hued beauty but also because of the meaning behind the stone. The word “pal”is believed to have its source in the Sanskrit language derived from the word “pala”which literally means precious stone.

The most rare and valued opal is the black opal. Black opals have been valued as stones that bring the wearer good luck. This dark stone is thought to protect its owner while traveling, especially to distant locations, a belief that is similar to the Catholic tradition of wearing a medallion with the likeness of St. Christopher.

Those who subscribe to more New Age oriented philosophies believe that black opals can help with mental focus, energy and motivation. Wearers of this dark gemstone feel that it can help to increase self-confidence and assist in the journey of connection with the core self. Black opals are even thought to influence physical issues such as childbirth pain and erectile dysfunction issues positively.

Fire opals, because of their intense warm orange to red colorations, are also believed to have healing properties. The depth of color in these gemstones is thought to be beneficial in managing disorders of the blood, and as an aid to those suffering from depression. The fiery stones are also worn as a circulation aid.

White or milky opals are valued for their calming properties. These opals can help o bring balance into the wearer's life and assist with disorders of the nerves. Crystal or gemstone healers use white opals as tools to look inward and also as an aid in personal spiritual quests.

Other colors of opals are valued for other reasons. Blue opals are thought to be a pathway to the “hird eye.”More greenish opals provide extra energy. Assistance with emotional issues and affairs of the heart are best found in the wearing of pink opals.

All opals are thought to aid the wearer during the process of childbirth, aiding in the alleviation of pain. They are valued for assisting those on a spiritual journey by enhancing intuition and inward introspection.

Regardless of the color of the wearer's opal rings, all opals are believed to be lucky stones, at least in the hands of those who are true of heart. Beware though to those who wear the opal while being duplicitous in affairs of the heart. Those who dare to wear this stone while breaking another's heart will find how very unlucky this gem can be.
