Men who enjoy their big toys know exactly what ATV tires are and what they are for. However, for the average person he or she might get confused as to what is all about. This article aims to tackle the basics about ATV tires, material they are made of and the different types.

First, the acronym ATV stands for the words all-terrain vehicles. All cars that are engineered to run through rough terrains like desserts, muddy trails, beaches, and sand dunes all need ATV tires. What sets them apart from the regular car wheels is that they have a better grip on the surface. They are commonly chunkier, heavier and bigger than the ordinary car tire because they are meant for off-road conditions. These are used in 4x4 jeeps that go through dense forests, through muddy paths, and slippery slopes. Not only are they made for cars they are also made for motorbikes. Some adventure-seekers take off-road driving and dirt biking as a serious hobby and these are the people who often need these tires.

These tires come in different types, which are meant for a variety of purposes. For instance, the paddle tires, which are smooth and resemble a balloon has only a few treads raised that run horizontally across the surface of the tire. It is because of these horizontal treads found in this specific type of tire that resembles paddles that gave it its name. These are designed to go through sand dunes, desserts, and for combing the beach in a top-down jeep with friends while playing loud music. Another type is called the snow tire. These are smooth tires that also have horizontal treads however unlike the paddle tires, the tread pattern look like snow chains. Because of this pattern, the tire can have a good grip on the surface even when going in reverse. The rubber compound that it is made of is soft enough to be pliable in ice therefore making it have a good grip on the surface. For those who live in areas, which have snow all-year round this is the perfect choice for them. Lastly, there is the trail type that is the most well known among all of them. They have the ability to accommodate rock and mud therefore, they are great to use for off-road conditions. For those who compete in 4x4 off-road tournaments and dirt bike races they should be using this tire.

ATV tires, just like all other types of tires are made out of rubber. However, what makes this different is that it is softer and has a more pliable compound. Softeners are added to the mixture of rubber so that they end up strong and dense yet still soft enough to go through different terrains. So even if the surface is wet or is filled with rock and mud the rubber can still have a strong grip. They are made of pure rubber carcass, which are layered and stacked in plies. They have lugs that that are designed for dirt which make them ideal for off-road conditions.
